  • Governor Mohammed Umaru-Bago revealed plans for the agro-processing zone and highlighted the near-completion of the Minna International Airport remodeling

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate an agricultural processing zone and the revamped Minna International Airport on Monday.

Governor Mohammed Umaru-Bago of Niger State announced this during an inspection of the projects on Saturday. He disclosed that the agro-processing zone project would utilize approximately 2,000 hectares of land.

Accompanied by Chris Isiguzo, President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Governor Bago revealed that 1,000 hectares would be dedicated to drip irrigation and greenhouses. In comparison, an additional 1,000 hectares would focus on processing dairy products.

Governor Bago highlighted the nearing completion of the Minna International Airport’s remodelling, stating it has reached 99 percent completion. He emphasized the significance of the airport’s strategic location for cattle transportation, with Niger State reportedly selling an average of half a million cattle daily.

Governor Bago noted that the agro zone project would involve collaboration with foreign partners. He mentioned plans to pipe water from Shiroro Dam to provide irrigation for farmers at the site, with approximately 140 kilometers of water irrigation channels under construction from the dam to the project location.

The NUJ president commended the governor for the initiative and expressed confidence that the revamped airport would be a competitive facility in Africa.

The ongoing transformation showcased during the inspection reflects the commitment of the present administration in Niger State to infrastructure development and economic growth.
