  • The suspects, comprising nine females and five males, were apprehended during a joint patrol in the Damaturu metropolis

The Yobe State Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation has apprehended 17 individuals for alleged involvement in prostitution and illicit drug use.

The arrests were made during a joint patrol conducted by the Hisbah department in collaboration with other security agencies in the Damaturu metropolis.

Parading the suspects before journalists, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Yusuf Hassan Yusuf, disclosed that the group comprised nine females and five males, whose actions were deemed contrary to Islamic teachings.

Yusuf mentioned that while some suspects would be handed over to security agencies for prosecution, others would undergo counselling sessions with religious leaders.

In a related development, the Kebbi State Hisbah Command reported over 350 cases of rape, abduction, drug addiction, and family disputes within eight months.

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs in the state, Architect Muhammed Sani Aliyu, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi. He further highlighted incidents of mothers abandoning newborns and cases of missing persons and abductions during the same timeframe.

Aliyu emphasized the collaborative efforts between the Hisbah command, security agencies, legal practitioners, and clerics to ensure their activities align with constitutional provisions.
