The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the resignation of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, citing his lack of performance nine months into his tenure.

Sir Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the party, made this demand during a press briefing held at the party secretariat in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. He asserted that Governor Fubara’s actions have demonstrated his inadequacy to serve the state effectively.

Okocha criticized the activities of Governor Fubara’s administration, labeling it as “decrepit, clueless, visionless, directionless, and rudderless.” He emphasized the APC’s role as the leading opposition party in the state, stating that it is essential to highlight the state of affairs in Rivers State transparently.

“As APC Rivers State, we condemn unequivocally the government’s inactivity, and we can substantiate our stance with concrete evidence,” Okocha declared.

Explaining the rationale behind the call for Fubara’s resignation, Okocha pointed out the governor’s departure from the principles of continuity and consolidation that he had promised upon assuming office. He contrasted this with the successful transition and continuity of policies witnessed in other states like Akwa-Ibom.

Okocha highlighted the lack of significant progress in the implementation of projects under the Fubara administration, particularly citing the Ring Road project. He accused the governor of extravagant spending on events like weekly thanksgiving services, which he deemed unnecessary.

Furthermore, Okocha criticized Governor Fubara for his failure to hold regular State Executive Council meetings and for operating in isolation from the legislative arm of government. He characterized the governor’s style of governance as authoritarian and called for his resignation on grounds of incompetence.

“In light of Governor Fubara’s incompetence and mismanagement, we demand his resignation. Rivers State deserves better leadership,” Okocha concluded.
