  • Edo State House of Assembly summons BEDC and TCN to address poor power supply and failure to provide prepaid meters
  • Speaker Blessing Agbebaku mandates BEDC to explain lack of prepaid meters, responding to concerns raised by Hon. Kaycee Osamwonyi

The Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) has issued a summons to the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Plc and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to appear before it and address the ongoing issues of poor power supply in the state.

During the plenary session, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, mandated the BEDC to explain its failure to provide prepaid meters to state residents.

The decision to summon the utility companies came after a member representing Uhunmwonde Constituency, Hon. Kaycee Osamwonyi, raised concerns about the state’s urgent need for prepaid meters.

Osamwonyi emphasized the detrimental impact of estimated billing on residents, highlighting its adverse effects on livelihoods and commercial activities.

In response to the urgent public concerns, the EDHA resolved to summon the management of BEDC and TCN to appear before the assembly on March 20 for further deliberation.

Previously, BEDC had issued a circular urging residents to bear with the company until January 7 for a stabilized power supply following facility upgrades in the state. However, the situation has persisted, prompting the assembly’s intervention to address the lingering power outage issues.
