  • Labour Party spokesperson refutes affiliation claims made by Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero and LP BoT Chairman Ejiofor
  • LP’s National Working Committee denies knowledge of any Board of Trustees within the party, dismissing assumptions of party leadership

Obiorah Ifoh, the Labour Party (LP) spokesperson, has refuted claims made by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero and LP Board of Trustees Chairman S.O.Z. Ejiofor asserts that neither individual is affiliated with the party.

Ifoh clarified that the LP’s National Working Committee, led by Julius Abure, has no knowledge of any Board of Trustees (BoT) within the party, dismissing the BoT’s alleged assumption of party leadership as absurd.

Reports suggested that the LP’s BoT declared its assumption of party control, citing alignment with the LP constitution and intentions to oust Julius Abure.

Under Ajaero’s leadership, the NLC contested Abure’s re-election, labelling the LP’s national convention as “illegitimate.”

Benson Upah, Head of Information at NLC headquarters, asserted steps were underway to contest the supposed “illegitimacy.”

Contrary to these assertions, the LP spokesperson noted that Ejiofor relinquished his LP national chairman role over two decades ago. He has since been inactive within the party, attending no meetings nor contributing as a member.

Ifoh added that Ejiofor lacks recognition even in his ward and has not fulfilled membership obligations, rendering him ineligible as a party member.

“Only individuals abiding by party rules, possessing party cards, and fulfilling membership dues can influence party affairs. Ajaero and Ejiofor, by contrast, hold no membership and shall not interfere in party matters,” Ifoh concluded.
