  • Kaduna State House Speaker firmly responds to alleged threats from Bello El-Rufai, warning against obstruction of Assembly’s lawful duties
  • Speaker condemns disrespectful remarks, reaffirms commitment to justice and accountability, urges support for transparency and accountability in Kaduna State

Honourable Yusuf Liman, the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, has responded firmly to alleged threats and intimidation from Bello El-Rufai, son of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of the state, regarding the ongoing probe into his father’s eight-year tenure.

Expressing concern over purported insulting and threatening messages sent by Bello El-Rufai via WhatsApp, the Speaker warned against attempts to obstruct the Assembly’s lawful duties.

In a statement released by the Speaker’s Media Aide, Malam Suraj Bamalli, it was revealed that Bello El-Rufai had also made disrespectful remarks on social media, prompting widespread concern among Kaduna State citizens.

The Kaduna State House of Assembly recently established a committee to investigate financial transactions, loans, grants, and project implementation during the tenure of ex-governor El-Rufai from 2015 to 2023.

The Speaker also noted that Bello allegedly took to social media with two tweets, insinuating a call to “fight” and disrespecting all Kaduna State House of Assembly members.

“Shortly after the establishment of a committee to investigate financial dealings, loans, grants, and project implementation from 2015-2023 in Kaduna State, Honorable Bello El-Rufai took to social media with two tweets, now deleted, insinuating a call to “fight” and disrespecting the entire Legislative Arm of Government.

“Additionally, he sent insulting and subtly threatening messages to the Rt. Honourable Kaduna State House of Assembly Speaker, Honorable Yusuf Liman, via WhatsApp.

“The screenshots of these tweets and messages have been widely circulated, causing concern among the citizens of Kaduna State. It is disheartening that a federal lawmaker, entrusted with representing the people, would resort to such behaviour, attempting to obstruct the lawful functions of the state Assembly,” the statement reads.

He emphasized that Assembly members are bound by their oath to uphold the integrity of their office and carry out their duties diligently, regardless of any attempts at intimidation or threats.
