On Thursday, the Enugu State command of the Nigeria Police Force announced the arrest of 23-year-old Obieze Chigozie, who is suspected of vandalizing electricity cables.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesman, stated that Chigozie was apprehended on April 12, 2024, around 5:30 am by officers from the Trans-Ekulu Division at the Damijah Flyover, while his accomplices managed to escape. The arrest was made following credible information about the suspect and his cohorts’ activities.

According to the statement, “The suspect and his accomplices were alleged to have vandalised an electric power transformer in an estate at Damijah Flyover, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu. Yet-to-be ascertained lengths and sizes of armoured cables and a big cutting tool the suspect and others at large used in vandalising the transformer were recovered.

The command spokesman said that the suspect would be arraigned and prosecuted once investigations had been concluded.
