  • The Legacy faction of PDP in Edo State warns of opposition in the gubernatorial election if grievances remain unresolved
  • Led by Chief Dan Orbih, they demand reversal of the Deputy Governor’s appointment, alleging affiliation with the Labour Party

The Legacy faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has issued a stern warning, declaring their intent to work against the party in the upcoming gubernatorial election if their grievances remain unaddressed.

Led by PDP National Vice Chairman for the South South, Chief Dan Orbih, the group demands the reversal of the appointment of the new Deputy Governor, whom they claim is affiliated with the Labour Party.

During the Legacy group’s gathering in Irrua, Edo, Orbih emphasized the urgency for the governor to address their concerns if the party aims to approach the election as a unified entity.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the state of the PDP and the government of Edo State, Orbih criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration, alleging a lack of progress for the people.

Orbih stressed that the future of Edo State supersedes party affiliations, emphasizing the importance of a candidate capable of addressing the state’s challenges and fostering inclusivity.

While acknowledging efforts by APC candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo to advocate for repairs on the Benin-Auchi Road, Orbih asserted that the election transcends party lines and focuses on the state’s welfare.

The meeting served as a platform to communicate the Legacy group’s discontent to PDP leadership at various levels, warning of potential resistance if their grievances persist.

Former deputy governor Philip Shaibu echoed the sentiment, asserting that the PDP’s chosen candidate lacks acceptance within the party, citing concerns about his origins.

Additionally, former House Representative member Hon. Ogbeide Ihama emphasized the Legacy PDP’s stance against importing candidates from outside Edo State to govern, underscoring the importance of local representation.
