  • Akpabio thereafter referred the request to the Senate Committee on Capital Markets to report back within two weeks.

President Bola Tinubu has asked the senate to confirm of four individuals appointed as board members of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered this was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary session on Wednesday.

The appointed members are:

  • Emomotimi Agama, appointed as Director-General
  • Frana Chukwuogor, appointed as Executive Commissioner (Legal and Enforcement)
  •  Bola Ajomale, appointed as Executive Commissioner (Operations)
  • Samiya Hassan-Usman, appointed as Executive Commissioner (Corporate Services)

According to the letter, the appointments comply with the provisions of Section 1 of the Investment and Security Act of 2007.

Senate President Akpabio subsequently referred the request to the Senate Committee on Capital Markets, tasking them to report back to the Senate within two weeks.

Notably, in April, President Tinubu had approved the appointment of seven individuals as SEC members, pending Senate confirmation. However, only four names were transmitted to the Senate for confirmation, with no explanation provided for the omission of the remaining three individuals.

This development marks a significant step in the process of filling key positions in the SEC, which plays a crucial role in regulating Nigeria’s capital markets.
