  • Niger Delta youth groups warned Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike against actions destabilizing the state
  • They emphasized maintaining peace in Rivers State, urging politicians to stop causing political turbulence for the state’s stability

The Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide and other Niger Delta youth groups have warned Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, against creating chaos in the state for personal gain.

In a communique released after a one-day peace and security summit, the youth groups urged both leaders to avoid actions that could destabilize Rivers State. IYC national president Alaye Theophilus, Bayelsa Youth Association president Doupere Precious, Ibom Youth Council president Lord Knight, and Urhobo Youth Leader Council president Emuejevoke Esesiobe, among others, signed the communique.

Reports indicate that Wike and Fubara are in a power struggle over control of politics and governance in Rivers State. This conflict has led to a crisis within the state House of Assembly and among leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The communique highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and stability in Rivers State, emphasizing that political turmoil must be avoided. It stated, “We urge the politicians causing political turbulence in the state to sheath their swords. This state is critical to both the region and the nation, and we cannot stand idle and watch while it descends into crisis.”
