Armed non-state actors in Nigeria’s restive south east region have killed two soldiers in Abia State.
The soldiers were reportedly killed by the unknown gunmen enforcing the sit-at-home order issued by a separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)
The gunmen who are over fifteen in number and masked reportedly attacked the military men at Obikabia junction in Aba.
A trending video shows the assailants shooting sporadically before also setting the military van ablaze.
However, a soldier, who is believed to have survived the onslaught, could be heard in the video saying “it’s like he is the only one that survived; others have been killed.”
The gunmen attacked the soldiers in an SUV jeep and a Sienna.
The Abia State Police Command and the Military have not issued a statement on the reported incident as of the time of filing this report.
The South-East is under lockdown following the declaration of sit-at-home by Biafra agitators in honour of those who died during the Civil war.
The majority of the residents have to cancel their plans and stay indoors for fear of being attacked by the non-state actors.
