Lagos Gov Rewards LASU’s Best Graduating Student With N10m

Olaniyi, a student of Accounting Education graduated with a CGPA of 4.98.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor has rewarded Olaniyi Olawale, the overall best-graduating student of Lagos State University, with N10 million naira.

The governor announced this on Thursday at the university’s 27th convocation grand finale in Lagos.

In a tweet by Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Olawale, who graduated with a CGPA of 4.98 in Accounting Education, received the gift in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement.

He wrote, “FLASH: Governor of Lagos State, Mr #jidesanwoolu has announced a token of N110m for the overall best graduating student of Lagos State University (#LASUOfficial), Olaniyi Mubaraq Olawale, Accounting Education, who graduated with a CGPA of 4.98.

Several distinguished individuals received honorary doctorate degrees at the event.

These included former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; and Oba Saheed Elegushi of the Elegushi Kingdom in Lagos.

Fashola was honored with a Doctor of Humane Letters in Urban and Rural Community Development and Youth Empowerment.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, was awarded a Doctor of Law in Education, Community, and National Development. Lagos State Governor’s wife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, was honored with a Doctor of Humane Letters in Child Healthcare, Environmental Development, and Women Empowerment.

Oba Elegushi was awarded a Doctor of Arts in Broadcasting, Community Integration, and Human Rights Advocacy.

The Oniba of Iba Kingdom, Oba Sulaimon Raji-Ashade, received a Doctor of Humane Letters in Grassroots Development, while Pastor Daniel Olukoya, General Overseer of Mountain of Fire, was honored with a Doctor of Science in Genetics and Biotechnology.

In total, 10,183 students graduated from LASU for the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic years, with 282 earning first-class honors.

The university also awarded postgraduate diplomas, academic and professional master’s degrees, doctorates in philosophy, and professional doctorates to 1,604 students.
