  • The Labour Party Directorate denies rumours of replacing Peter Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections
  • The statement reaffirms Peter Obi as the Party’s presidential candidate, emphasizing unity and commitment to electoral victory in 2027

The Labour Party Directorate on Mobilization and Integration has strongly refuted rumours suggesting plans to replace Peter Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

Responding to social media speculation regarding reconciliation with the Lamidi Apapa-led faction, the directorate clarified its stance through a joint statement signed by Marcel Ngogbehei, Director General, Ambassador Aju Elumelu, Deputy Director of Media and Communications, and Sheikh Rufai Al-Saddiq, Deputy Director of Strategic Engagement.

The statement acknowledged ongoing efforts to reconcile internal disputes but emphasized that no agreement has been reached regarding fielding a different candidate for the upcoming elections.

“The Labour Party recognizes the imperative of maintaining peace and unity among its members,” the statement affirmed. “Our focus remains on mobilizing stakeholders and achieving electoral victory with Peter Obi as our Presidential Candidate in 2027.”

Highlighting the Party’s commitment to internal cohesion and stability, the statement reiterated, “Peter Obi remains our Presidential Candidate for 2027, endorsed by the Party Leadership who are steadfast in their support towards realizing his vision for a rejuvenated Nigeria.”

It further addressed attempts by external forces to misinterpret the reconciliation efforts for their agenda, affirming that the Party’s leadership stands united behind Peter Obi’s candidacy and remains dedicated to achieving a unified front in preparation for the upcoming elections.

“In conclusion, any insinuation contrary to Peter Obi’s status as our Presidential Candidate is unfounded,” the statement concluded, underscoring the Labour Party’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal harmony and electoral success under Peter Obi’s leadership.
