The Rivers State Police Command has issued an arrest warrant for Gabriel “General” Asabuja, a former leader of Niger Delta militants, due to his involvement in a viral video related to local government council disputes.

The state has been in upheaval since a conflict erupted last year between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, worsened by recent disagreements over local council leadership.

Governor Fubara’s decision to appoint a caretaker committee has triggered protests and heightened tensions among Wike’s supporters, leading to police warnings against violence and assurances of their readiness to intervene.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, condemned Asabuja’s actions, highlighting significant public concern and stressing that law enforcement would not tolerate such conduct.
