  • Governor Diri has stated he has no intention of becoming Atiku’s 2027 running mate
  • Diri dismissed the suggestion as a “Greek gift” from political opportunists and urged supporters to disregard the group

Senator Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, has stated that he has no intention of becoming former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

A group calling itself “Diri Angels” has urged Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate for 2023, to consider Governor Diri as his running mate in 2027.

But in response to this call, Governor Diri, through his spokesman Daniel Alabrah, described the group as “faceless” and dismissed the suggestion as a “Greek gift” from political opportunists. He urged his supporters to disregard the group completely.

Diri claimed that the group’s goal was to cause discord and that their plan had failed. He emphasised that God had always guided his political journey and was unmoved by any advocacy contradicting his beliefs.

Governor Diri reaffirmed his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Bayelsa State, a mandate first given to him in 2019 and renewed on November 11, 2023. He urged state residents not to be distracted by “political buccaneers” who seek to confuse.
