  • Mbah also signed bills on environmental protection, sports development, and property protection, emphasizing the need for robust legal frameworks

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State signed the Public Ranch Management Agency bill into law on Wednesday. This law aims to resolve conflicts between herders and farmers in the state.

Governor Mbah also signed bills on Environmental and Climate Protection, Sports Development Fund, and Properties Protection into law. He expressed gratitude to the Enugu State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Uche Ugwu, for their support and swift action on executive bills.

“We appreciate your support and recognize the need for a legal framework to achieve our goals. Robust policies must be guided by law,” Mbah stated.

He addressed the Public Ranch Management Agency Law, acknowledging its controversies and misunderstandings. The government has faced accusations of introducing measures beyond ranching.

Mbah explained, “We must end open cattle grazing to prevent conflicts between farmers and herders. In the 24th century, there is no reason to encourage open grazing. This bill promotes civilized behavior by enclosing cattle, providing services, ensuring sufficient pasture, and creating proper markets and abattoirs.”

Speaker Uche Ugwu emphasized the significance of the signed bills, stating, “Since the 8th Assembly began, the executive has sent critical bills to the House. These bills will transform the landscape, economy, and living standards of Enugu State residents.”
