The Kano State Police Command has apprehended 149 suspects for various offenses between June 24 and July 4, 2024. This includes 106 thugs and 43 individuals involved in other major crimes.

During these operations, the police recovered arms, dangerous weapons, large quantities of illicit drugs, motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles.

State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, revealed these details on Thursday while addressing journalists about the command’s recent activities.

Represented by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Garba stated that the arrests occurred during targeted operations he led in troubled areas of Kano metropolis.

Garba detailed the recoveries, stating, “We seized one Pump-Action Rifle, two motor vehicles, five tricycles, eight motorcycles, 58 knives, cutlasses, and pointed rods.” Additionally, the police confiscated “87 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, 23 mobile phones, and twelve solar batteries.”

The commissioner emphasized that the police have intensified patrols in the affected areas and increased collaboration with community leaders, youth groups, and other security agencies.

“This coordinated approach is essential to effectively combat the root causes of the violence and prevent future occurrences of such incidents,” he said.

Garba reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating thuggery (Daba) and other criminal activities, warning that no effort would be spared in ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.

“We remain resolute in our commitment to combating thuggery and other criminal activities,” he stated.
