  • Former TETFUND Executive Secretary Bogoro stated the Nigerian Constitution provides governors the tools to uplift Nigerians and make a significant impact
  • Bogoro commended Governor Mohammed for exceeding expectations in Bauchi over the past five years through extensive road and infrastructure projects

Former Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Tax Fund (TETFUND), Professor Suleman Elias Bogoro, has stated that the Nigerian Constitution provides governors with all the necessary tools to uplift Nigerians and make a significant impact. On Saturday, he made these remarks at a reception organized for Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State in Abuja.

He commended Governor Mohammed for exceeding the expectations of Bauchi’s residents over the past five years and highlighted the extensive road and infrastructure projects across the state.

Prof. Bogoro said, “I listened to Mr. President about two weeks ago speaking to the Arewa Consultative Forum, emphasizing the role of governors in emancipating the people of the North. It was covered in the newspapers, and rightly so.”

He continued, “The Constitution supports governors in making a difference. When a governor goes beyond the state capital to reach all local government headquarters and even the remotest parts of the state with his transformation efforts, what more can we say?”

Bogoro noted that Governor Mohammed was among only seven governors honoured by the federal government despite belonging to an opposing political party. “This exceptional recognition makes us proud to be associated with our governor. The standards he is setting are desirable to other governors.”

In a goodwill message, the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, praised PDP governors for consistently striving to improve Nigerians’ lives. He said, “Today marks another milestone for us in the PDP family. I proudly state that Nigeria experienced its best governance when we were in charge. Despite the current government not being PDP, it still recognizes our achievements, indicating that we have always delivered exceptional service.”

Governor Bala Mohammed, in his address, credited Bauchi’s development foundation to its first civilian governor, the late Abubakar Tatari Ali, and other predecessors like Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu. “I am deeply connected to every part of Bauchi and work tirelessly because of this bond. Excluding any section of the state is not an option for me,” he said.

He reminisced about the contributions of former leaders, noting that Tatari Ali’s administration significantly advanced education and infrastructure with limited resources. Mohammed pledged to tackle ongoing challenges, such as water shortages in local government areas and highlighted ongoing and future projects supported by the World Bank and the federal government.

Governor Mohammed emphasised the importance of focusing on governance rather than politicizing efforts, stating, “We must acknowledge that the present administration emphasizes governance over politics, and we appreciate the federal government’s support. This approach will help alleviate poverty and ensure food security.”
