One Mallam Auwalu Haruna has been apprehended for allegedly abducting and impregnating a 20-year-old lady, the police in Yobe State have said
Haruna, a self-proclaimed marabout, was arrested after the father of the victim reported the matter to the police.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident.
He said the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a complaint from Alhaji Mohammed Kellu that his daughter was abducted by Haruna on June 6, 2024.
According to him, Haruna’s case is the latest in the slew of gender-based violence (GBV) recorded in the state.
Kellu disclosed that the police recorded 34 cases of GBV and related crimes between January and June 2024, with 85% currently undergoing trial and a few convictions secured.
Following a thorough search, the victim was found in the suspect’s custody in Anguwan Arewa, Gaya LGA, Kano State.
A medical examination revealed that she was two months pregnant.
The victim disclosed that she was forced into drinking a medicinal concoction, which rendered her unconscious and vulnerable to the perpetrator’s actions.
He added that the State CID has launched an investigation into the incident.
