Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has labelled the recent suicide bombings in Gwoza town as acts of sabotage aimed at undermining his administration’s resettlement agenda. Speaking in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Saturday after a 35-day absence, Zulum expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and pledged to enhance cooperation with military and security operatives to ensure the safety of the people.

“Very unfortunate for what has happened in Gwoza town, it came when we are celebrating the exit of the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State. We witnessed a series of suicide attacks in Gwoza, and I believe it is an act of sabotage at this time because we are looking forward to how we shall resettle people back to their communities. I think some don’t like the resettlement agenda of Borno State,” Zulum stated.

The governor urged the people of Gwoza to remain calm and law-abiding and to support the state government in ensuring that internally displaced persons (IDPs) are resettled in their ancestral homes.

Zulum also addressed the state’s current economic and security challenges, appealing for patience. “I know there are challenges in Nigeria, especially the food scarcity and insecurity, but I think it is a temporary state. Insha Allah, we shall get over it.

“Borno has peculiar challenges of insecurity that prevent farmers from accessing their farmlands, but with the relative peace enjoyed in the state, farmers can cultivate their farmlands. Please pray for a bumper harvest this year,” Zulum added.
