The Nigerian Army has announced the successful dislodgment and destruction of a terrorist camp linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

In a statement posted on its official X account on Saturday, the Army detailed that the operation took place early in the day in the Ezere Forest of Umuawa Aku, Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.

The operation also extended to Akawa Nnneato and Lomara communities in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

The Army reported that the troops, acting on intelligence about the harassment and intimidation of local residents by the terrorists, swiftly mobilized and engaged in a fierce shootout. The successful operation led to the capture of a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and various other items, including assorted ammunition, two motorcycles, and two communication radios.

The statement highlighted that the troops’ decisive action and subsequent hot pursuit of fleeing terrorists disrupted their operations significantly, forcing them to abandon a substantial arms cache.

“This operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region,” the statement read. “The Army remains resolute in dismantling any threat to ensure the safety of communities and combating terrorism.”

The Army emphasized that the successful operation not only disrupted the activities of the terrorist group but also reinforced its dedication to restoring and maintaining order in the affected areas.
