  • The statement reiterated President General Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s February 2024 directive for the Igbo to avoid protests

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, has advised South-Easterners not to participate in the planned nationwide protest to avoid targeting by security forces.

In a statement issued Monday by National Publicity Secretary Alex Ogbonnia, Ohanaeze attributed Nigeria’s current economic hardships to “Igbophobia” and systemic injustice against the Igbo.

The statement reiterated President General Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s February 2024 directive for the Igbo to avoid protests, citing unequal treatment and the severe consequences faced by Igbo youths compared to other ethnic groups.

The organization stressed that peace and progress are unattainable with ongoing discrimination.
