  • Oba Ewaure II urged Nigerian youths to cancel the August 1 protest, emphasizing that improvement takes time and requires patience
  • He called for the federal government to expedite economic and security measures while asking protesters to reconsider their plans

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewaure II, has called on Nigerian youths to cancel the planned protest scheduled for August 1, 2024. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Osaigbovo Iguobaro, the revered monarch emphasized that improvement takes time and urged patience from the citizens.

The Oba appealed to those frustrated by the current economic conditions to give the Federal Government more time to implement its policies, which are intended to ease the present hardships. “For things to get better, it has to be tough for a while,” he noted.

Additionally, the Oba urged the federal government to accelerate the execution of its economic and security measures to address the nation’s challenges more effectively. He advised the organizers of the nationwide protest to reconsider their plans.

This appeal follows a proposal by some youths to start a 10-day nationwide protest against hunger and hardship on August 1, 2024, aiming to highlight the struggles citizens face and draw attention from both federal and state governments.
