The Nigerian Navy Outpost in Koluama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, provided free medical services to over 1,000 residents of the Koluama II community on Saturday.

Commanding Officer, Naval Outpost Koluama II, Stephen Agwai, stated that the initiative aimed to promote cooperation with the host community. The services included checkups, consultations, health education, and the distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets and medication.

Agwai emphasized the positive impact on the community, noting that the outreach is part of the Navy’s corporate social responsibility. “As we embark on this free medical rhapsody, we reaffirm our commitment to the well-being and prosperity of every Nigerian. Health is fundamental to human existence,” he said.

He highlighted the Navy’s commitment to ensuring quality healthcare reaches all corners of the nation, starting with the Koluama II community. Agwai encouraged residents to take advantage of the opportunity and seek medical care.

Secretary of the Council of Chiefs, Koluama II community, J.A. Ekubo, praised the Navy for the outreach, noting it was the second time such services were provided. He highlighted the importance for fishermen who often don’t know their health status.

One beneficiary, Ebi Tebowei, commended the Navy for the services, revealing that he discovered he had high blood pressure and low sugar levels during the checkup.
