  • Violent clashed between farmers and herders continue in Borno
  • The Police Commissioner vows to address crisis and restore order

The Borno police command has said it recovered six grenade-like objects in the Ajilari cross area of Maiduguri suspected to be the remnants of a terrorist group’s activities.

Yusuf Lawal, commissioner of police in the state, said the projectiles were uncovered during Friday’s operations.

Lawal said that the Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) personnel from Base 13, who were deployed to the scene, found that the grenades contained incendiary chemicals.

He said that the area was thoroughly screened and the projectiles were recovered safely, leaving the area secure.

In a distinct incident, 20 people were taken into custody for allegedly fueling chaos and igniting fires in Maiduguri, and are now undergoing questioning and examination to pave the way for a transparent trial.

Speaking further, the CP said that a farm in Bassam Galomari Village was invaded by Fulani herders grazing their cattle, sparking a clash with the owner, in yet another outbreak of violence on the same day.

“The farm owner attempted to remove the herdsmen from his property, but they resisted, and one of the Fulani men attacked the farmer, cutting both his hands,” NAN quoted Lawal as saying.

”The victim was rushed to Gubio Hospital, where he was referred to Maiduguri Hospital for further treatment.”

Lawal said that security agencies have been directed to take swift action to address the crisis and restore order, while security forces remain vigilant and proactive in maintaining public safety and preventing additional incidents.
