Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has unveiled the One Kindred, One Business (OKOBI) programme for all 655 autonomous communities in the state.

The decision was announced during an emergency Executive Council meeting on Monday.

The Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Governor, Oguwike Nwachuku, stated that the OKOBI programme aims to generate employment and ensure food security at the local level. Governor Uzodimma encouraged communities to embrace the initiative, which allows them to own and manage businesses of their choice.

Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Prof Kenneth Amaeshi, explained that the programme seeks to democratize business ownership in Nigeria and promote cooperative societies. The government has identified up to 300 potential businesses for establishment in the communities.

Amaeshi cited the success of the Okpofe Community in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area as a model. The implementation process will involve collaboration between traditional rulers, town union President Generals, and community stakeholders to plan and receive government support.

In other matters, the Executive Council expressed condolences for the recent passing of the immediate past President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, and observed a minute of silence for eight individuals killed by bandits in Umucheke Okwe, Onuimo Local Government Area.

Chief Political Adviser Enyinna Onuegbu addressed ongoing infrastructure projects, noting that rain has affected road construction but work will resume once the weather improves. He highlighted progress on the Control Post/Assumpta Cathedral Flyover and the Ihiagwa bridge, which are expected to be completed in a few weeks. Onuegbu assured traders at Timber Market Naze and Alaba Market that construction will resume in full force after the rainy season.
