The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed on Thursday that 50% of the 9,370 vehicles impounded between January and June 2024 were commercial buses.
These vehicles were all prosecuted in the state mobile court under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
Bakare-Oki shared this information during a courtesy visit from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Jonathan Owoade, at LASTMA’s Headquarters in Oshodi.
He highlighted recent initiatives to improve road safety and traffic management, such as launching a toll-free call center, a walk-in complaint center, a whistle-blower app, and upgrading the agency’s website and planning, research, and statistics department.
Assistant Corps Marshal Owoade reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to road safety, noting the introduction of new vehicle number plates designed for enhanced visibility and security. He also emphasized the need for public awareness campaigns to educate motorists on road signs.
The two agencies agreed to strengthen their collaboration in managing traffic in Lagos.
