- The establishment of the Girl Child Education Volunteers and Advocacy (GICEVA) is expected to boost advocacy efforts and mobilise more volunteers to promote education at the grassroots level
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum plans to deploy Girl Child Ambassadors across all 36 states in October to reduce the number of out-of-school children, currently estimated at 20 million.
Despite the Universal Basic Education Board Act of 2004 mandating free and compulsory basic education for all children in Nigeria, many remain unenrolled.
A document confirmed by NGF Education Advisor Dr. Ebenezer Leo The Great, reveals the forum will collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Education and state governments to address girl child education.
The ambassadors will engage stakeholders and promote awareness campaigns on girl child education during the International Conference on Girl Child Education in Nigeria from 9th-11th October 2024.
The ambassadors will also participate in advocacy efforts, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps Community Development Service group and state education ministries.
Representatives from 36 states will sign the Girls Child Education Fund Declaration to reinforce the government’s commitment to supporting and funding girls’ education in Nigeria.
The establishment of the Girl Child Education Volunteers and Advocacy (GICEVA) is expected to boost advocacy efforts and mobilise more volunteers to promote education at the grassroots level.
The Girl Child Ambassadors will serve as role models, inspiring other girls to pursue academic excellence and advocate for their right to education.
