  • The family is now appealing to security agencies and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is served

The family of 21-year-old Ahmad Yusuf Muhammad, one of the individuals arrested in Kano over the alleged mass production of Russian flags, has denied his involvement in the accusations.

The Department of State Services (DSS) arrested several tailors in Kano State on suspicion of manufacturing Russian flags for distribution. The agency announced the arrests via its X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating, “The Service has apprehended some tailors in Kano State responsible for making Russian flags being distributed in the area. Some of their sponsors have also been picked. An investigation is ongoing.”

However, Nasiru Yusuf Muhammad, Ahmad’s brother, told Daily Trust that Ahmad is not a tailor and has never operated a sewing machine.

“He is my biological brother, and he was arrested on the accusation that he was sewing the Russian flag. I want to clarify that he has never been a tailor and doesn’t even know how to use a sewing machine,” Nasiru explained.

Nasiru further stated that Ahmad works in the recycling of used water sachets and is employed directly under him in this business. He emphasized that the sewing machine allegedly linked to Ahmad was not his and was found in a neighbor’s house, whose owner has since fled.

“The flag was not in his possession, and Ahmad did not participate in any protest or raise a flag. We had warned him against such activities, and he complied,” Nasiru added.

The family is now appealing to security agencies and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is served.

“We are calling on the authorities to carefully examine this case and release him. He is not a tailor and did not commit the offense for which he is being held,” Nasiru urged.
