  • Ogie resigned to contest as Ighodalo’s running mate
  • He is the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the September 21 election in the state.

Osarodion Ogie has left his role as Edo state government secretary to join the upcoming election as Asue Ighodalo’s running mate.

This move allows him to pursue his political ambitions alongside the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate.

Asue Ighodalo is the PDP’s choice for governor in Edo state, with the election set for September 21, 2024.

This election will determine the next governor of the state.

Ogie’s resignation, effective August 9, aligns with the electoral law requiring officials to step down before seeking office.

This ensures a smooth transition and adherence to legal requirements.

Governor Obaseki has appointed Joseph Eboigbe as the new secretary to the state government, effective immediately.

He said Eboigbe brings experience from his previous roles as Special Adviser and Commissioner for Finance.

Eboigbe’s background includes a 15-year tenure at Deloitte and a master’s degree from the London Business School.

He will now oversee the state government’s final lap and continue the Governor’s agenda.

Governor Obaseki expressed gratitude to Ogie for his dedication and commitment to the state’s vision.

Obaseki wished Ogie success in his future endeavors and trusts he will utilize his experience to serve the people of Edo.

“The governor has also approved the appointment of Mr. Joseph Eboigbe as the new Secretary to the State Government,” the statement reads.

“The appointment takes immediate effect.”

“Eboigbe served as former Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget and Economic Planning and later as Commissioner for Finance.

“He takes over as Secretary to the State Government to now run the final lap and continue the Governor’s Finishing Strong agenda.

“Eboigbe, a chartered accountant, had a 15-year stint at Deloitte before venturing into public service. He holds an Msc in Leadership and Strategy from the London Business School.”

“The governor thanks Ogie for his commitment and loyalty to the vision of building a vibrant and prosperous State championed by his administration in the last seven years.

“Governor Obaseki wishes Ogie the best in his aspirations and trusts that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear in pursuing his quest to serve Edo people.”
