  • Dr. Fauziya Buhari Ado emphasizes the importance of school feeding programs in improving education quality and encouraging school attendance in Northern Nigeria
  • Ado highlights the need for better educational infrastructure and support for families to sustain the increase in girls’ attendance at school

Dr. Fauziya Buhari Ado, the Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on the School Feeding Programme, has emphasized the vital role that school feeding plays in improving the quality of education, particularly in the Northern region of Nigeria. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Dr. Ado highlighted the need for a comprehensive strategy to enhance educational infrastructure and support families financially, which is crucial for encouraging consistent school attendance.

“We are witnessing a significant increase in the number of girls attending school, a positive shift from the past. However, to sustain this progress, it is essential to strengthen schools with better facilities, provide teachers with the necessary training, and ensure the continuation of the school feeding programme,” Dr Ado stated.

She stressed that every child, especially girls, should be able to thrive academically and build a brighter future. While acknowledging the positive societal changes reflected in the growing number of girls attending school, Dr. Ado emphasized that much work remains to be done.

Dr. Ado also noted that improving school facilities and addressing students’ basic needs, such as providing soap and detergent for proper hygiene, are critical steps in this effort. “By focusing on these areas, we can create an environment where all children, regardless of their background, have the resources they need to succeed,” she added.
