The Nasarawa State Government has firmly asserted that no community across its 13 Local Government Areas is under the control of bandits or any other criminal groups.

Peter Ahemba, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Public Affairs, made this statement during an interview with in Lafia on Wednesday.

He credited the success to Governor Abdullahi Sule’s proactive approach to security and his collaboration with state security agencies.

“Governor Abdullahi Sule has taken security matters seriously, working closely with security agencies to ensure that criminal elements are held accountable,” Ahemba stated. “As of now, there is no community or LGA in Nasarawa State under the control of bandits. While insecurity is a national challenge, we have not had any instance where bandits have taken over a community in our state.”

Ahemba added that the governor’s proactive measures have allowed residents to feel secure, with many able to “sleep with their two eyes closed.”

Supporting this claim, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed that the state has not experienced such incidents. He highlighted the police command’s collaboration with local communities as a key factor in curbing criminal activities.

“In Nasarawa State, no community or LGA is under siege by bandits. The state police command, through effective crime prevention strategies, has kept crime rates at a minimum,” Nansel explained. “Under the leadership of CP Umar Nadada, the command has utilized community policing, engagements with stakeholders, and sensitization efforts to involve local communities in safeguarding their areas, significantly reducing crime.”

Nansel also mentioned that undercover police operatives have been deployed to various public spaces to gather intelligence, further contributing to crime reduction in the state.

“With these strategies in place, there is no space for bandits to occupy in Nasarawa State. I can confidently reiterate that no community or LGA in the state is under the control of bandits,” the PPRO concluded.
