  • The 650,000 bpd capacity facility began operations in January, producing diesel and aviation fuel.
  • Dangote said that the petrol from the plant can rival international products in terms of quality.

Aliko Dangote, the head of Dangote Group, has formally announced the start of fuel production at his facility.

In a media briefing, Dangote characterized this achievement as a significant turning point for Nigeria, ending a prolonged reliance on foreign fuel imports.

“This refinery will fuel growth, development, and prosperity by supplying energy to our people,” said Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Dangote expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for creating a supportive environment that enabled the project’s success.

“I salute the people of Nigeria and President Bola Tinubu’s government for creating the conditions that allowed us to achieve this monumental task. This refinery will drive growth, development, and prosperity by providing energy to our people,” Dangote stated

He also commended Tinubu for the “Naira for crude, Naira for product” initiative, which he believes will stabilize the Naira by reducing dollar demand by 40%.

The 650,000 bpd capacity facility began operations in January, producing diesel and aviation fuel.

Dangote said that the petrol from the plant can rival international products in terms of quality.

On August 22, Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced it was conducting test runs for petrol production, with full operations expected to commence by mid-September.

The production start had been delayed multiple times between May and August.

On Sunday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited acknowledged its debt to petrol suppliers, impacting its ability to maintain a steady fuel supply, resulting in persistent queues and a 45% price increase since July.
