Suspected herdsmen have killed Sunday Oche, the Labour Party Chairman for Igumale Ward 1 in Ado Local Government Area, Benue State.

Oche was ambushed while returning from his farm with five others, who sustained serious injuries but managed to escape. According to local reports, the attack occurred around 4:30 pm.

A friend of the deceased, speaking anonymously, revealed that the group had been traveling on two motorbikes when they were confronted by armed herdsmen. Oche, who was at the front, was shot and died instantly. The attackers fled before local youths arrived at the scene, leaving Oche’s body behind.

The Benue State Labour Party Publicity Secretary, Tersoo Orbunde, confirmed the incident, stating that Oche’s body had been retrieved and the police notified. The burial is set for Thursday, September 5, 2024, while those injured are receiving treatment in the hospital.

However, Police Public Relations Officer Superintendent Catherine Anene said she had not yet received any information about the attack.
