- He urged President Tinubu to “halt this naked derailment of democracy”
Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has accused the Federal Government of undermining constitutional democracy by excluding Kano from the recent distribution of rice palliatives to 36 other states.
Kwankwaso expressed disappointment that Kano’s share was allegedly handed over to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling on President Bola Tinubu to stop what he termed a “blatant act of partisanship.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kwankwaso said, “For the last week, I have been in Kano and sadly noted the Federal Government’s distribution of rice palliatives to 35 states through their governors, except Kano. Kano’s share was handed to APC stalwarts. This is a gross insult to our constitutional democracy.”
He urged President Tinubu to “halt this naked derailment of democracy.”
Kwankwaso also raised concerns about the recent reshuffling of State Security Service (DSS) officials in Kano. “Within two weeks, three different State Directors of DSS have been posted and reposted out of Kano. This is negatively affecting the security of the state,” he added.
On Sunday, September 8, Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin stated that President Tinubu was dissatisfied with the earlier distribution of palliatives, prompting him to reconstitute a new committee to ensure aid reaches the needy.
Jibrin, while launching the palliative distribution in Kano’s North West geo-political zone, urged Nigerians to support the President’s efforts to fix the country, stating that this is not the time for blame.
