The Nasarawa State government has called for the official integration of traditional rulers into Nigeria’s governance structure.
The state’s deputy governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, made the call during the 20th-anniversary celebration of the ascension of the Andoma of Doma, in the Doma Local Government Area.
Representing Governor Abdullahi Sule, Dr. Akabe underscored the importance of traditional rulers in fostering good governance and maintaining peace.
He pointed out that the relative peace enjoyed in the state is due to the contributions of the traditional institution and encouraged royal fathers to continue in this direction to ensure lasting peace and tranquillity.
Felicitating the Andoma of Doma for his two decades on the throne, Dr Akabe described the royal father as a “Round peg in a round hole” whose leadership has made the Doma people and the entire state proud.
At the event, the Aku Uka of Wukari, Dr Ishaku Adda Ali Matakhitswen, and the Emir of Lafia retired Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed, acknowledged the shared ancestry among the Alago, Jukun, and Kanuri people.
They stressed the need for unity among these ethnic groups, urging the Andoma to continue serving humanity with dedication.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar, a special guest at the occasion, praised the Nasarawa State government for its achievements in various sectors and urged political leaders to fully integrate traditional institutions into governance.
The celebrant, the 43rd Andoma of Doma, Ahmadu Aliyu Oga, expressed gratitude for reaching 20 years on the throne, attributing his reign to God’s grace.
