The Ogun State government has signed a memorandum of cooperation with traditional rulers and community development associations from the host communities of Gateway International Airport, Ilisan Remo.

The agreement aims to ensure peaceful coexistence and address concerns related to the project.

Commissioner for Transportation, Gbenga Dairo, led the government delegation to the meeting and signing ceremony.

He noted that key issues such as compensation for families, boundary disputes, and local employment opportunities have been addressed, while ongoing engagement will resolve any remaining concerns.

Dairo commended the communities of Iperu and Ilisan for providing the land and emphasised the long-term benefits of the airport, which features one of the longest runways in Nigeria at 11.8km.

The Governor’s Aviation Consultant, Benedict Adeyileka, highlighted the airport’s world-class facilities and its potential to spur growth and job creation in neighbouring towns.

Opeodun Ifashola, Oluwo of Iperu, and Wemmy Osunde, Chairman of Ilisan Development Association, both expressed support for the project, while urging fair compensation and resolution of boundary issues.

Earlier, the delegation paid homage to local monarchs, Oba Adeleke Basibo and Oba Michael Sonuga, who signed the agreement on behalf of their communities.
