  • The female soldier also narrated how the colonel allegedly evicted her from her apartment and locked her up in a psychiatric hospital.
  • Ogunleye added that whenever she tried to report Abdulkareem to senior officers, he always told them that she was battling mental illness.

Ruth Ogunleye, a former soldier, has sought for transparency from the Nigerian Army regarding her discharge.

Earlier, Ogunleye had leveled serious allegations against three senior officers, including sexual harassment, intimidation, and threats to her life, in January.

She had claimed facing retaliation from one of the accused colonel Ishiaku Abdulkareem, of allegedly made unwanted advances, which she rebuffed.

Ogunleye asserted that she was unfairly denied promotional opportunities and had her army pass request rejected.

She also shared a disturbing account of being forcibly evicted and institutionalized by Colonel Abdulkareem, who allegedly misrepresented her mental health when she reported him.

On September 24, Army Spokesperson Onyema Nwachukwu announced that investigations cleared Colonel Abdulkareem of wrongdoing.

Consequently, Ogunleye was discharged, while Colonel Abdulkareem was exonerated; investigations supposedly revealed Ogunleye’s deteriorating mental state.

In response, Ogunleye took to TikTok, urging the Nigerian Army to release the investigation’s findings publicly.

“It is no longer news that I was discharged from the service on June 15, 2024. I humbly request that the Nigerian Army publish the outcome of the investigation that led to my discharge,” she said.

“On January 9, 2024, I came on social media to complain about how I was harassed by Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem, Colonel G.S. Ogor, and Brigadier General I.B. Solebo.”

“I beg the Nigerian Army to post the outcome of the investigation on its social media platforms so that the whole world will know what truly transpired and what led to my discharge.

“I will be very grateful if my request is considered.”
