  • Mrs Adeniyi urged the women not to relent in their efforts to develop their capacities

The President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) and wife of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, distributed food items and cash gifts to 50 widows of customs officers at the Ogun 1 Area Command in Idiroko on Friday.

In addition to the donations, Adeniyi awarded scholarships to 54 students for their outstanding academic performance and provided writing materials, including books and mathematical sets, to students in both primary and secondary schools within the command.

Mrs Adeniyi said the gesture aimed to show the widows that the association remembers and supports them. She highlighted the unique challenges faced by the families of customs officers, especially those stationed at border regions like Idiroko, where officers are frequently engaged in dangerous operations against smugglers and criminals.

“As wives and mothers, we understand the anxieties and fears that come with having our loved ones on the frontlines. The threat of danger is ever-present, but I stand here today to encourage every one of you: remain steadfast and prayerful. Continue to support your husbands with strength and courage,” she said.

Mrs Adeniyi urged the women not to relent in their efforts to develop their capacities and contribute to national development. She also encouraged them to uphold COWA’s values of compassion, solidarity, and empowerment.

The Chairperson of Ogun 1 Area Command COWA, Adenike Folu-Ojo, commended Mrs Adeniyi for her unwavering support to the families of officers, both those still in service and those who have fallen.
