Five worshippers have died after consuming certain food during a feast at a church in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Many others who also ate from the food prepared for the celebration which happened last week Sunday landed in a hospital.

It’s gathered that about 50 of the worshippers who also ate from the food were later admitted to the Infectious Disease Centre in the Olodo area of Ibadan.

Those admitted to the centre were, however, discharged on Saturday (yesterday), DAILY POST reports.

It was learned that the feast was part of the rites in line with the church’s doctrine.

It has not been established if the food was the reason for the death of those who died.

It is gathered on Sunday that the state ministry of health and other relevant stakeholders have been informed about the incident.

It was learned that an investigation by the relevant stakeholders has begun.

The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, said that an investigation has commenced on the matter.

He said, “Investigation is ongoing. Updates would be provided accordingly, please.”
