  • Governor Siminalayi Fubara approved the construction of a modern psychiatric hospital in Obio-Akpor, amidst ongoing political tensions with Nyesom Wike
  • Fubara emphasized his achievements in one year, contrasting them with Wike’s eight years, and called for unity among Rivers State residents

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has approved the construction of a modern psychiatric hospital in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, which is the hometown of his estranged godfather, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The move comes amidst an ongoing power struggle between Fubara and Wike over the control of Rivers State, with Wike accusing the governor of turning against those who helped him rise to power.

During a reception held by the Ijaw Peoples Assembly in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike boldly stated that when the time was right, he would teach Fubara and his supporters a lesson in politics.

He criticized the current leadership in Rivers State and expressed confidence that his political influence would prevail again.

In response, Governor Fubara, speaking at an Inter-denominational Church Thanksgiving Service organized as part of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebrations, highlighted his achievements since taking office.

He emphasized that his accomplishments in just one year outweighed the efforts of his opponents over the span of eight years.

Fubara noted that he signed the paperwork for a N200 billion loan from Zenith Bank to construct the Port Harcourt Ring Road and awarded the contract for the Trans-Kalabari Road, a project worth N225 billion, which his predecessors were unable to complete.

He further added that he is also constructing a General Hospital and a Psychiatric Hospital in Obio-Akpor, hinting that his political opponents may soon need psychiatric care due to their obsession with challenging his administration.

He urged his critics to remain silent and accept the grace of God in his life, reminding them that his actions are for the benefit of the people of Rivers State, not for personal gain.

Fubara also assured the public that every project his administration starts will be completed and put to use, avoiding unnecessary groundbreaking ceremonies for projects that won’t be completed.

The governor concluded by calling for unity, emphasizing the need to protect the progress that has been made in Rivers State and urging his opponents to act with humility instead of attempting to destroy what has been built.
