Armed bandits wielding dangerous weapons attacked the Dan-Ali community in the Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State on Friday, disrupting Jummat prayers in multiple mosques.

Sources within the community reported that the assailants fired sporadically as they stormed the area, causing panic among worshippers, many of whom were forced to flee for safety.

“We were at Jummat prayers when we suddenly heard gunshots. Everybody ran, and we couldn’t continue with our prayers,” said a resident who requested anonymity. He noted that the Security Watch Corps in the area responded quickly and chased the attackers away.

The resident called for additional security support, saying, “We need reinforcement because the bandits are making life difficult for us in our communities.”

He revealed that for over a week, bandits have been preventing farmers from accessing their farmlands in Dan-Ali and surrounding areas, including Gwarjo, Dangane, Tudun, Tasha Kadanya, and Tasha Biri. Several farmers have been kidnapped, instilling fear among those who depend on agriculture for their livelihoods.

“We are all scared to enter our farms,” the resident lamented.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.

The incident adds to the growing insecurity in Katsina State, where banditry and kidnapping have significantly affected the safety and wellbeing of residents.
