The Federal Government has announced the launch of the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), an initiative aimed at creating 2.5 million jobs annually to address the country’s unemployment crisis.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, provided details of the programme in a statement released following President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day address. She highlighted that LEEP is a core element of the government’s economic revitalisation strategy and a crucial intervention designed to reduce unemployment.

According to Onyejeocha, the initiative will include job creation, skill development, and improved access to employment opportunities across the country.

“Through LEEP, the Federal Government will empower millions of Nigerians by providing them with opportunities to work and thrive,” she said. “The programme will not only create jobs directly but also stimulate further employment through supportive economic policies.”

Onyejeocha also explained that the initiative will focus on enhancing the employability of Nigerian youths by equipping them with skills relevant to the digital economy and entrepreneurship. Additionally, she said that the programme would be complemented by initiatives such as job fairs and the expansion of digital platforms for recruitment to connect employers with job seekers more effectively.

The minister reassured the public that LEEP would serve as a catalyst for economic growth and help position Nigeria as a key player in the global job market. She added that the government is committed to ensuring that this initiative delivers on its promise to reduce unemployment and improve the welfare of workers across the nation.
