  • Recall that Rivers has been enveloped by political turmoil and uncertainty since the incumbent government, Siminalayi Fubara, fell out with his predecessor, Wike.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bode George, says the developments coming out of Rivers State are deeply disturbing.

Violence erupted in the state on Monday after last weekend’s local government with hoodlums suspected to be acting at the behest of the former state governor, Nyesom Wike, setting ablaze local government secretariats.

Recall that Rivers has been enveloped by political turmoil and uncertainty since the incumbent government, Siminalayi Fubara, fell out with his predecessor, Wike.

Reacting to the unfolding events in the oil-rich state, Bode George said Wike and Fubara must sheath their swords and let peace reign in Rivers.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the PDP stalwart stated that Fubara is the PDP leader in Rivers and not Wike.

He said that he is not going to take sides with anybody but will only want justice, equity and fairness in the politics of Rivers State.

The PDP chieftain explained that he and other members of the PDP Board of Trustees have made some attempts to reconcile both Wike and Fubara.

“Justice is, who is the leader of the party in the state? It is not the minister, it is this governor.

“So, we have to stand by him – the beauty of it is he stated categorically that he wasn’t leaving the party and then they carried out this election.

“I spoke with the chairman of the board of trustees and then made an attempt with a group of BOT members to visit Fubara to listen to his side and then after I spoke with Wike that he should give an appointment that we are coming to see him,” he said
