The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has distanced itself from a fake “demobilisation exercise” scam circulating in the Niger Delta.
Unscrupulous individuals are deceiving unsuspecting members of the public, collecting money under the guise of pipeline surveillance and vocational training.
A statement from Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Media Assistant to PAP Administrator Dr. Dennis Otuaro, clarified the programme’s stance after receiving numerous inquiries from concerned stakeholders.
The PAP, under Dr. Otuaro’s leadership, emphasizes that it does not collect money or favors from Niger Deltans to participate in its educational scholarship and vocational training initiatives.
The public is urged to be cautious and report suspicious individuals to security agencies for prosecution.
As stated, “It has come to the attention of the Presidential Amnesty Programme that some unscrupulous elements are going about collecting money from unsuspecting Niger Deltans for a purported demobilisation exercise by the PAP Office.”
These scammers falsely claim the PAP will use the exercise to recruit individuals for pipeline surveillance and vocational training.
“The PAP office states categorically that it is not organising or carrying out any demobilisation exercise in any part of the Niger Delta.”
Dr. Otuaro condemns these fraudulent activities, and the PAP encourages security agencies to apprehend and prosecute those involved to deter others.
