- The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Edward Buba, described his comments as “laughable”
The Nigerian military has challenged former militant leader Asari Dokubo to come to the battlefield to witness the capabilities of the armed forces.
This follows Dokubo’s claim that he could shoot down a military helicopter hovering around his residence.
Responding to Dokubo’s statement, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Edward Buba, described his comments as “laughable” and dared him to see if he could withstand the military in combat.
Buba said, “If he believes he has the power to contain the Nigerian military, he should show up on the battlefield and see if he wouldn’t be neutralised.”
He further emphasised that the military’s primary focus remains on combating terrorists and other threats across various theatres of operations in the country.
“Our enemy is the terrorists. While some may refer to them differently based on the region, in the northwest and northeast, they are all terrorists. We have eliminated over 300 terrorist commanders in the last three quarters and are continually targeting their leadership to reduce their fighting capabilities,” he stated.
Buba assured that the relevant security agencies would handle Dokubo’s comments appropriately, reiterating that the military is dedicated to defending the nation’s sovereignty against all threats.
