- The returnees arrived aboard an Air Mali flight on 8 October
The Lagos Territorial Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 111 Nigerian returnees from the Niger Republic at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
In a statement shared on its official social media platform, NEMA reported that the group included 82 adult men, 15 adult women, five boys, six girls, and three infants.
The returnees arrived aboard an Air Mali flight on 8 October as part of a voluntary evacuation initiative organised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Nigerian government.
NEMA noted that the returnees were offered assistance by several agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). After profiling by immigration officials, the returnees were taken to temporary accommodation where they will receive vocational training as part of their reintegration programme.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to repatriate Nigerians stranded in Niger.
