  • The PDP’s Board of Trustees urged President Tinubu to reconsider policies causing hardship, calling for immediate action to reduce fuel prices
  • The BoT warned against APC attempts to create a one-party system, citing alleged electoral manipulation in the recent Edo State election

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently reconsider his administration’s policies to alleviate the growing hardship across Nigeria.

In a communiqué issued after its meeting at the PDP headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, the BoT expressed deep concern over Nigerians’ economic struggles and widespread “misery and despondency.”

The BoT also warned of attempts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to create a one-party system, particularly pointing to alleged electoral manipulation in the recent Edo State governorship election.

The BoT highlighted that the current economic situation is fueled by the APC-led government’s “anti-people policies.”

It called for immediate action to ease Nigerians’ suffering by reducing fuel prices, investing in food production, and reviving the manufacturing sector to create jobs and stimulate the economy.

“The BoT demands that the APC administration review its policies and take swift steps to reduce fuel costs, invest in food production, and rejuvenate the manufacturing sector to provide employment opportunities and lessen the burden on Nigerians,” the communiqué read.

Regarding the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election, the PDP’s BoT accused the APC of collaborating with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security forces to manipulate the results.

The board insisted that the votes counted at polling units clearly showed that the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, had won the election.

The PDP’s BoT vowed to pursue all legal avenues to reclaim the mandate, accusing the APC of attempting to impose a totalitarian regime on Nigeria. It urged Nigerians to resist any efforts to undermine the country’s democracy and electoral processes.
