  • Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 133rd international goal as Portugal defeated Poland 3-1, continuing his impressive form in the Nations League
  • Portugal maintained their perfect record in the tournament, with goals from Bernardo Silva, Ronaldo, and an own goal by Jan Bednarek

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 133rd international goal as Portugal secured a 3-1 win over Poland in their Nations League Group A1 clash on Saturday.

This marked Ronaldo’s third consecutive goal in the competition, continuing his impressive form as Portugal maintained their perfect record.

In the match held in Warsaw, Bernardo Silva opened the scoring for Portugal after 26 minutes. Bruno Fernandes provided a cushioned assist, allowing Silva to volley the ball into the net, putting Portugal ahead.

Ronaldo doubled their lead 10 minutes later, reacting quickly to a rebound after Rafael Leao’s powerful shot struck the post. This goal increased Ronaldo’s international tally to 133.

Despite Portugal’s dominance, Poland managed to pull one back late in the second half. Piotr Zielinski scored in the 78th minute, finishing off a neat one-two with substitute Kacper Urbanski.

However, Poland’s hopes of a comeback were dashed when Jan Bednarek scored an own goal in the 88th minute following a cross from Nuno Mendes, sealing a 3-1 victory for Portugal.

Portugal coach Roberto Martinez expressed his satisfaction after the match, stating, “We worked very hard the last few days, preparing various solutions for this game, and we were able to show it on the pitch. I am really satisfied because we controlled this game.”

Poland’s Zielinski acknowledged the strength of the Portuguese side, saying, “We played against one of the best teams in the world, full of great players. But we allowed them to do too much, especially in the first half.”

Portugal now looks ahead to their next match against Scotland in Glasgow on Tuesday, aiming to maintain their winning streak in the Nations League. Meanwhile, Poland will host Croatia in their upcoming fixture.
