The United Arab Emirates has expressed interest in partnering with Nigeria to support its expanding tech startup ecosystem.

Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, announced the UAE’s willingness to collaborate during GITEX Global 2024, the world’s largest startup event in Dubai. He praised Nigeria’s innovation and the potential of its startup scene, noting that some Nigerian companies are already expanding into the UAE.

“There are a lot of inventions in Nigeria, and more can be done. We are open to collaborations, but the right conversations are needed,” Belhoul said.

Nigeria is increasingly positioning itself as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation, particularly in fintech, healthtech, and edtech, with Lagos emerging as a major hub. In the first quarter of 2024, Nigerian startups attracted 35% of the $466 million raised by African tech firms.

Belhoul emphasized that investment in research, development, and talent is essential for sustaining growth in the sector.

GITEX Global runs from October 13-18, 2024, and is the world’s largest tech and startup event.
